As long as human hearts still beat,
There will be those who choose to
Burn and break
Shatter and shame
Maim with tongue, or gun or terror.
But
There will also be those who choose to
Lift and give
Cherish and champion the unseen and voiceless
Shining with a light so bright
We can conquer the longest darkest night. Pamela Pierson Portz written after 9/11.
I have loved the atmosphere of hope that has been in this country lately.Especially the great joy to be found in the African American community as the long felt curses of slavery were dealt another blow. I recently saw a mug with MLK jr. on it that said "He dreamed a dream and an entire nation woke up." I would love it if the feeling of unity could spread among all factions and groups, and that the Jerry Springerish enmity will slither off into the darkness of history where it belongs. It still saddens me to see people bashing others whom they perceive as adversaries based on different beliefs. I know someone who is pro-life who said that they wish Hilary Clinton's mom had been pro-choice. Although I would not have voted for Hilary Clinton, it grieves me to see her a victim of verbal violence. I love to hear opinions from staunch democrats as to what were the strengths and contributions of Ronald Reagan, and I would also delight in hearing an avid Republican discuss the merits of the Clinton years. I guess I fell out of the party system after trying to fit in . Anyway God bless all of us Americans of varying races, beliefs, parties, and opinions to strive for goodwill toward men.
